Community Banking: Why Local Matters

A Message from our Chief Consumer Banking Officer

As a community bank operating for more than 200 years, Five Star Bank’s longevity comes down to people – both those who work here and those we serve.

Across Five Star Bank’s Western and Central New York footprint, April brings many things – more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, more sunshine and, hopefully, fewer snowfalls! It also marks Community Banking Month, an opportunity for our team to reflect on what motivates us every day here at Five Star – you. In today’s dynamic and interconnected global economy, you have nearly infinite financial services options. The fact that you give Five Star Bank the opportunity to serve you is truly an honor for our team.

Why Local Matters

We take great pride in having served some of our communities for more than 200 years. We have weathered economic highs and lows and, through it all, have remained a strong, diversified, and well-capitalized financial institution ready to support our customers. Our longevity is a direct result of our ability to understand the current needs of those we serve and anticipate what’s needed in the future, ensuring that we’re able to provide the right level of support to all of our customers – every step of the way.

In many cases, we are your neighbors. Our children may be classmates or teammates, and we may pass you on the sidewalk in our local neighborhood or at one of the many festivals taking place this spring. If you’re a small business owner, many of our team members are likely your customers. That’s the value of community banks. We are best equipped to meet the needs of local individuals, families, businesses and organizations because our employees live and work here, too.

Focused on More than Financial Wellness

Our purpose is to help our customers and communities thrive and realize their dreams. We accomplish that, in part, by providing products, services and resources that help them reach their financial goals. However, our commitment to wellness extends well beyond money. Through partnerships, grants and volunteerism, we work hand-in-hand with our neighbors and community leaders to foster growth within our local economies, support rich and vibrant cultures and create opportunities that benefit everyone. From scholarship programs designed to develop future doctors to care for our community members, to grant funding to help small towns recover from challenges, to volunteer hours provided to local non-profits whose missions are to provide food, housing, education, health services, and so much more – we are committed to addressing the financial, physical, emotional and mental wellness of people throughout our footprint.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, for being a part of our communities and for helping to make Western and Central New York such a wonderful place to live, work and enjoy. We hope to see you soon.
